The BRIT Awards 2011: The Dresses

Another awards ceremony? Oh yes.

Tonight played host to the biggest event in the UK music calender – the Brit Awards 2011 – held at London’s 02 arena. The British music awards always attracts the biggest names and the best outfits, and this year’s line-up did not disappoint.

A real mixed bag of looks graced the red carpet, but Vivienne Westwood was undoubtedly the label of choice. Not only was the award itself designed by the Dame (see above), but about half of the ladies in attendance opted for Westwood dresses. Can you blame them?

Rihanna turned up fresh from the Grammy’s in a colourful Christian Dior haute couture number, complimented by her bright red locks and aqua blue heels. The Barbadian singer was reportedly feeling worse for wear, suffering from bronchitis over the weekend, but still managed to deliver a blinding medley of her last three singles, as well as collect her award for Best International Female.

Jessie J showed off her enviable legs in an emerald Vivienne Westwood mini dress accessorised with nothing but side-dotted tights. She completed the look with black suede heels, red lips and heavily shadowed eyes, which she nearly ruined when collecting her Critic’s Choice Award moved her to tears! Britain loves you Jessie.

Paloma Faith pulled off her regular quirky/cool look in a sequined Vivienne Westwood dress, accessorised with a huge 80’s style bow and elbow length gloves. She showed off a new auburn hair-do complete with retro bangs, complimenting her bold brows and big smile perfectly. She continued grinning through her red lips even when she missed out on the Best Female award to underdog Laura Marling.

After her 80’s look at the Elle Style Awards last night Sophie Ellis Bextor channelled a different era in this gorgeous polka dot Dolce & Gabbana dress. She paired the 50’s style prom dress with flower applique sandals, a black satin clutch and the ever popular painted red lips.

Cheryl Cole (or should it be Tweedy?) sparkled in this backless black number, showing off her toned back and big butterfly tattoo. She kept things simple with an Alexander McQueen clutch, nude Louboutins and pewter jewellery. The star attended alone, missing out on both her nominations for Best Female and Best Single.
