Helmut Lang: Helmut Lang set up a fashion studio in Vienna in 1977 and opened a boutique there in 1979 at the age of 23. Lang is known for his minimalist, deconstructivist, and often severe designs. His fashion house became famous in the late 1980s for its simple but refined designs, its slim suits in black or white, its denim collection, and the use of high-tech fabrics.
J BRAND was founded in 2005 in Los Angeles, the original premium denim brand based in DTLA—starting a trend that continues to this day and defining the city as the denim capital of the world.
Theory: Twenty years ago, a pair of trousers changed the way American women dress. Recognising the need for clothes that felt great and fit perfectly, Theory developed an innovative stretch fabric that would dramatically improve a trouser’s performance. These trousers had the power to make women feel confident, smart, and stylish. Never before had American sportswear been so easy to wear to work and everywhere else. When Theory for men was established, similar foundation principles were used, so that they, too, could get dressed in innovative, highly functional, and stylish clothes.
