In an effort to assist friends and business partners across Europe, all effected by COVID-19, shoe manufacturing company Vans has launched a brand new initiative, “Foot The Bill” – a programme created help to support small, independent skate shops by offering custom-made designs available for purchase on Vans Customs, with all net proceeds going directly back to the stores themselves.

Foot The Bill: How It Works

With each business granted unprecedented access to the Vans Customs platform (the American brand’s online creative space to design custom shoes) partners will be able to create and upload a pattern that they feel best represents their own unique persona and style, using either the Vans Classic Slip-On or Era plimsole as their blank canvas. Customers can then show support to each of the business’ part of the initiative, by selecting to purchase any of the original designs online, before customising their shoe with other colours, prints and material combinations.

Vans will be producing up to 500 pairs of ‘Custom Vans’ per business partner – but once they are sold out, they will no longer be available.

The Vans “Foot The Bill” initiative was first launched in the US on April 3rd, 2020 and featured more than 30 skate shops and restaurants, with new small businesses from around the world being added daily. The program will expand across Europe to include additional independent skate shops over the next month.

“My father Paul Van Doren always said that we were a people company that makes shoes.” Steve Van Doren, son of Vans’ founder and Vans’ Vice President of Events and Promotions said in a statement accompanying the initiative’s official launch. “Now, more than ever, it’s important to support the people that provide spaces for communities around the world to be creative and come together. We were once a small business and wouldn’t be where we are today without the support of these partners. We hope to rally together with consumers to lend a helping hand to those that are in need.”
