The V&A is to host a free event for 16-24 year olds hoping to make it big in the fashion industry.
Making It: Careers in Fashion and Costume will be held at Stratford Circus Arts Centre in east London on Saturday 22 February from 11am to 5pm. No booking is necessary, and young people can drop in to visit the event at any time during the day.
The day will include a series of workshops, advice sessions, design displays, and live make-up, illustration, and tailoring demos. Attendees will also have the chance to meet a range of experts in the fashion industry including stylists, photographers, illustrators, make-up artists, hip-hop performers, fashion designers, and senior members from the British Fashion Council.
Maya Bonsor, from V&A’s CreateVoice youth collective, said: “As a member of the V&A’s CreateVoice collective I had the opportunity to help organise and design the Making It event in a way specifically tailored to young people. It’s a perfect opportunity to come and find out about all paths in the industry and to ignite new ideas and inspiration.
The event is part of a series of events in east London leading up to the opening of V&A East. in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in 2023. The new museum and research centre will will harness the power of art, design and performance to inspire the next generation of artists, designers, makers and thinkers.
