Selfridges has become the world’s first department store to unveil their Christmas window this year, with over two months to go until 25th December.
The shops in London, Manchester, and Birmingham all revealed their festive windows last week, which are styled on the theme of “Selfridges Rocks Christmas”.
More than 100 staff worked on the window displays continuously in rotated shifts over 8 days, and the windows are now adorned with more than 85,000 baubles, 200 Christmas trees, and 65,000 pieces of confetti that are released from Canons.
The displays feature Santa dressed up in a variety of sequined rock outfits, and a Debbie Harry inspired mannequin. The theme has seen mixed reactions from shoppers.
Selfridges was also the first retailer to release its Christmas range this year, at the start of August
A spokesperson for Selfridges said about the window theme: “It’s about freedom, exuberance, living for today, and having a rocking time to the accompaniment of a great soundtrack.”
