Royal Mint commission Georgina Goodman shoes for Royal Wedding

Sick of Royal Wedding memorabilia already? Well forget the mugs, tea towels and spoons – here’s something a little more fashionable. Commissioned by the Royal Mint, British footwear designer Georgina Goodman has designed a pair of  Swarovski encrusted wedding shoes to celebrate the occasion.

In-keeping with tradition, they complete the classic rhyme “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue,” which actually ends with – “and a silver sixpence in her shoe.” Each shoe, hand finished by Goodman at her Mayfair studio, is embellished with a commemorative silver sixpence, and are made of Italian suede and handmade lace.

Georgina Goodman, who was tipped as ‘the future of footwear’ by Manolo Blahnik, said: “I was honoured to be asked by the Royal Mint to design these couture shoes to celebrate such a momentous event. I wanted to create something very classic and traditional using the silver sixpence, but also produce a design that was unique. Rather than placing the coin inside the shoe, I’ve taken a modern twist by embedding the lucky silver sixpence right on the front.”

Only eleven pairs of the exclusive heels have been created, with one pair being sent to the bride herself, Kate Middleton. The others are only available to win in exclusive competitions, including one pair up for grabs on the Royal Mint’s website.
