Skepta has collaborated with Nike to produce a new version of the classic Air Max 97 shoe.

The colourway is inspired by the star’s trip to Morocco and the colours used in the 1999 Air Tuned Max, which was the first shoe Skepta saved up to buy as a child. The upper of the shoe uses strips of iridescent copper and rose gold leather, paired with black mesh and the insole has a Moroccan-inspired pattern with an “Sk” logo” in the shape of a British plug. Braided embroidery along the tongue and heel pay homage to the clothing Skepta saw during his trip to Morocco.

Skepta said: “Air Max is museum-worthy. They’re worthy of standing next to other pieces of art. That’s why it’s more than just a shoe. And it’s always been that for me. When looking at this 97, I just wanted to feel the way I did when I was a child. And we got there. It’s perfect.”

The Air Max 97 SK will be available globally from and selected stores from 2 September.
