New retail destination to be opened at Battersea Power Station

The Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC) has announced plans for a £9 billion development of the building into a mixed retail, leisure, office (Apple has already pre-let 500,000 sq ft of office space), and housing space by 2020.

The main body of the building will be split into two halls to house curated brands from around the world in over 100 retail units.

Turbine Hall A was built in the Art Deco style of the 1930s and will house premium brands that “portray elegance, sophistication and timeless style”. Turbine Hall B, built in the 1950s, will be home to more contemporary brands.

The new development will make Battersea Power Station the third largest retail destination in central London and is expected to attract 40m visitors a year.

Transport links for the new mall are being put in place, including an extension of the Northern Line to give the site its own Zone 1 tube station, and MBNA Thames Clippers will also deliver visitors to the door.

Alongside the retail units, the site will include a number of bars and restaurants in Circus West Village, an events space – The Village Hall, and a park. A glass elevator in one of the building’s towers will offer 360° views of the city.

Locals and those from across Britain and the world will be coming here for all sorts of reasons, including being able to go into one of the world’s most recognisable buildings.”
