Mulberry has announced the launch of its Portobello Tote – the brand’s first fully sustainable leather bag.

The Portobello Tote is inspired by Mulberry Green – the brand’s commitment to using sustainable practices in designing, sourcing, and managing each collection to create positive change.

The bag is produced at Mulberry’s carbon-neutral Somerset factories and uses Heavy Grain leather – a by-product of food production from a gold-rated tannery. The gold standard rating is awarded by the Leather Working Group due to it’s environmental operations and output.

The tote bag is unlined and stitched with Epic EcoVerde thread – a recycled polyester fibre. With double loop handles and a shoulder strap, it can be carried or worn across the body.

Johnny Coca, Mulberry Creative Director, said: “Our starting point for this family was the ultimate everyday item, the plastic bag – functional, but throwaway. The Portobello keeps the beautiful utility of this silhouette and elevates it into an elegant tote that is practical and, more importantly, made to last.”

The bag is available from and in stores in a variety of signature and seasonal shades including Black, Midnight, Chestnut, Nordic Blue, Crimson, Tangerine Orange, and Mulberry Green. Prices start at £795.
