The sheer dress that Kate Middleton famously wore in a university fashion show has sold for £78,000 to a collecter in Jersey. The dress, which cost fashion and textile student Charlotte Todd £30 to make, is said to have caught Prince William’s eye and helped start his relationship with the future Princess.
The dress, originally designed as a skirt, was up for auction by vintage clothing specialists Kerry Taylor Auctions and was only estimated to reach £10,000.
Speaking after the auction, Todd said: “I am totally speechless, and feel very emotional. I really didn’t think it would make that amount. I am planning to put some of the money towards a deposit for a house, but perhaps I may use some to change my career.”
