London Olympics 2012: Jessica Ennis: “Sport gave me more shape”

Jessica Ennis has hit back at the UK Athletics official who branded her “fat”, saying that sport helped her form a womanly shape.

The London 2012 competitor born in Sheffield told the Evening Standard: “I was really skinny when I was young, so doing sport gave me more shape.”

She also revealed that she’s worried the recent controversy over her weight may have a bigger effect on young girls and body image standards. “If young girls look at me and think I’m overweight, that’s just not healthy. I don’t want them thinking, ‘Am I fat, if she’s supposed to be fat…?’'” she said.

Yet Ennis’ image has equally been praised, as she’s not only been a Marie Claire cover girl, but has also appeared in British Vogue and is the current poster girl for Olay Essentials.
