Introducing… D.S. & DURGA

New York perfume house D.S. & DURGA was first launched back in 2007.

Co-founded by husband and wife duo David Seth (D.S.) and Kavi Moltz (DURGA), both with the joint belief that the power of scent is equal to that of sight and sound, Seth and Moltz marry together their respective backgrounds in music and architecture, to create fragrances that stimulate the senses and awaken the soul, working under the notion that aroma can conjure ‘fantastical worlds, particularly of music and memory’.

Inspired by their love of art, nature, music and design, D.S. & DURGA truly are a one-of-a-kind brand.

In The Beginning…

Having started the company from scratch over 10 years ago, D.S. and DURGA set out to build a free-thinking, conceptual business that would push the boundaries and parameters for what it was to be a perfumery in the new millennium – taking ownership of their ideas, and original creative vision to turn all of the things they loved into ‘scented stories’.

Originally based out of D.S.’s Bushwick apartment, the couple played to their strengths, each taking the lead in their respective areas of expertise, making inspired decisions based on gut instinct.

As a self-taught perfumer, D.S. immersed himself in the art of fragrance making, his passion and love for music becoming an integral part of the company’s ethos, translating musical and literary spaces into scent. DURGA, a former architect with a vast wealth of knowledge and industry experience, began to design everything for the brand, approaching her work by thinking in angles, light, shadow and texture, creating ‘buildings’ for all D.S. & DURGA scents.

D.S. & DURGA Perfumes & Packaging

For each of their fragrances, D.S. & DURGA create authentic studies of real-world objects, plants and places, weaving them into narratives that transport customers to far and away places. Sourcing ingredients from all over the world, cherry picking the very best components and aromas on offer to them, they experiment and explore with their findings to construct and concoct unexpected combinations of scents that will ultimately become a part of their library.

Accompanying each perfume purchased comes beautifully written liner notes – the stories and ramblings of D.S. etched on the insides of each box – with the hope that the more consumers know about the product, the deeper they will ‘explore the world in a bottle’.

All boxes used by the company have been engineered to be foam-free, recyclable paper – shipping materials are biodegradable and the formulas 100% vegan.
