The Chanel Couture coat that took 3,000 hours to make

Couture is extremely expensive and for good reason – hours of painstaking craftsmanship can go into making just one piece, or in the case of this Chanel jacket from the autumn 2012 couture collection, 3,000 hours.

In a behind-the-scenes video released by Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld speaks about the intricacies of couture, saying: “Couture has to be something nobody can do. You know the tweed is not tweed – its embroidery, all done by hand. There’s a coat with no sleeves that took 3,000 hours to make.”

That’s a lot of hands and a lot of needles! No wonder these pieces are prices on request. Watch Uncle Karl’s interview below.
