The British Fashion Council have announced they have launched a national database of recommended UK-based manufacturers, with the aim to make it easier for fashion designers to see their ideas through to production.
The need for a database of British manufacturers was identified two years ago by a working group consisting of independent specialists and several retailers and groups supporting the UK fashion and textile industries.
The database is free to use and will be part of a designer business education platform – the BFC Designer Fact File. The Designer Fact File covers multiple aspects of the fashion business from start-ups to established brands.
It is hoped the database will grow over time as designers and BFC partners recommend manufacturers and suppliers submit themselves for listing.
The database is part of the BFC’s 2017 focus on Positive Fashion, in which fashion designers and manufacturers will be encouraged to prioritise sustainability and ethical practices in their businesses.
The manufacturers database is free for anyone to use online and can be accessed at http://www.designerfactfile.com/Manufacturers
