We caught up with Venetia for the latest in our ‘My London’ interview.
Notting Hill. A bit of a cliché but it is all too easy to while away the day there.
Favourite place for brunch:
I am Australian, so it has to be Granger. I go to the one in Sloane Square now as there is always a shorter queue. White City House is also a lot of fun, and their buffet is reminiscent of a hotel on holiday.
Best coffee in London:
Workshop Coffee on Mortimer St. The very best of caffeine kicks.
Favourite gallery or museum:
I love the V&A. It is so huge, so whenever I go I choose a different room or area to really dive into. Their courtyards is also lovely spot to sit in in the summer.
Tell us a secret:
The best ever vintage store is on the corner of Notting Hill Gate, and the best time to go is midweek. You can find incredible vintage Givenchy, Chanel and Balenciaga at really reasonable prices. Its hard to navigate, and you have to commit to finding something. My rule is that I have to leave with something. My best buy is an eighties orange beaded Chanel, and the most recent was an Isabel Marant black dress.
Favourite place to shop:
I have always loved Harvey Nichols. Their beauty hall is the best in London. It is a very manageable size – if you are looking for something, you know where to find it, and the edit is always very well curated.
Favourite place to find inspiration:
Abroad! I like to leave London to give myself some headspace.
Best London destination for a date:
I think a daytime date always works well – in the summer its fun to go to Pizza East Portobello, and then wander through Notting Hill and head to Hyde Park (you can politely withdraw at any of these stages if its not going well!)
Battersea Park. Its quieter than the others, and has the most beautiful gardens.
Favourite food market:
Broadway Food Market in Hackney. It has such an incredible variety of different cuisines, and a really fun day out.
Your sanctuary in the city:
A hotel bar. My favourite is the Connaught, and I think its very easy to feel anonymous in a hotel. Alternatively, at home. I like to book Ruuby treatments on a Sunday and make it my own spa.
What inspires you?
Everyone that I work with. The Ruuby team all have such different backgrounds, and I love asking them where the latest and greatest places are to go.
This season I’m loving:
Going to more talks or events. I like spending my spare time learning new things – the Portrait Gallery does a free drawing class every Friday evening, so I went there recently and had a great time.
