Interviews | | Leave a Comment

Hakan Köse is an award winning celebrity hairdresser and former Head of The Artistic Hair Association in Turkey. He started his career in 1980 and is now one of the most in-demand hairdressers in Turkey, with an ever growing waiting list, where he maintains one of the most fashionable salons in Istanbul. He launched HK LONDON on King’s Road, Chelsea in 2017. A modern, 2-floor oasis of calm created by a joining of forces with a leading London based Turkish hairdresser Mehmet Bozdal and entrepreneur Ayse Ford. Since opening its doors last summer, HK LONDON has become a go-to destination for artistic hairdressing in London where clients can also enjoy make up, manis, pedis and threading. Most recently, Hakan has been honoured as a member of the jury for The Hairawards 2019 by Estetica Hellas and sponsored by L’Oreal Paris, alongside other industry greats.

We caught up with Hakan for the latest in our ‘My London’ series.

Favourite neighbourhood:

My salon is in Chelsea which is my favourite neighbourhood as well. I love the energy and the vibe in the area. So many great places to shop, eat and see.

Favourite place for brunch:

Definitely the Bluebird Café. Apart from its proximity to the salon, just across the road, it has a great outdoor space particularly for the summer which I found is unusual in London.

Best coffee in London:

TAB x TAB in Westbourne Grove.

Favourite gallery or museum:

Saatchi Gallery. The exhibitions are so inspiring. I was there most recently to see the exhibition by the Turkish photographer Ara Güler who is one of the most renowned names in Turkish creative photography.

Tell us a secret:

I hang myself upside down on my inversion table every day to support my circulation. I’m on my feet all day, every day so it helps!

Favourite place to shop:

Old Spitalfields Market.

Best London destination for a date:

Night Jar Lounge – Jazz Club.

Favourite park:

Chiswick House and Gardens.

Favourite food market:

Borough Market; so many delicious options. And the spice shop is the best. It’s a little bit of home right in London!

Your sanctuary in the city:

Kew Gardens; I feel home every time I go there.

What inspires you?

Nature and meditation.

This season I’m loving:

Change & challenge. Getting out of my comfort zone!
