Panicking about Mother’s Day? You needn’t with our handy top ten guide to choosing the perfect gift. Read on for inspiration:
Flowers may seem like an obvious choice, but that doesn’t mean they go unappreciated. Head to one of our favourite florists in the capital to choose a bouquet that is perfect for your mum – we love Dansk by St Mary’s Church on Upper Street in Angel, Dawson Flowers in Bloomsbury and The Flower Station. Order from the latter before the afternoon and enjoy same-day delivery.
Head to the Hotel Chocolat website, or store in Covent Garden, Westfield White City and Kings Cross, to pick up your some pink champagne truffles, or blow the budget on a ‘Sleekster’ box of chocolates. If you order online there are a variety of delivery options for those who have left things a little late.
3. SWEET TREATS
If your Mum has given up chocolate for lent, but sugar is still on the cards, we cannot recommend highly enough a trip to the Belle Epoque Patisserie to pick up a delicious – not to mention beautifully presented – sweet treat. You can visit them in Selfridges, on Islington’s Upper Street and on Newington Green in North London.
Beauty sets are the best way to go for Mother’s Day – they are exactly the sort of thing that it’s hard to justify buying for yourself, but they always feels like a real treat. If you have a generous budget, we love this Baume de Rose set of By Terry’s lip glosses in a selection of tempting shades. Looking for something just as lovely but slightly less expensive? Save 20% and receive a free mascara when you buy a gorgeous Redken set with FeelUnique.com.
If you want to buy your mum perfume, we suggest choosing something classic. Head to Selfridges and John Lewis in Central London to pick up a bottle of Chanel No. 5 or Mademoiselle for a timeless fragrance that all women love – whether to wear or display in their bathroom cabinet.
A stress-reducing candle is a perfect gift for busy mums. We love NEOM Organics’ ‘Tranquility’ candle infused with calming Lavender, Sweet Basil and Jasmine. Alternatively, Organic Pharmacy’s Orange Blossom candle is the perfect anticipation of the approaching spring months.
NET-A-PORTER.COM offers next day shipping throughout the UK and a same-day service within London, so it’s our go-to for last-minute gifts. Luckily the company also have a selection of the chicest coffee table books. Why not treat your mum to this comprehensive trilogy about Chanel, or inspire her summer holidays with this set about Europe by Luxe City Guides.
Our favourite discovery for thoughtful gifts at a reasonable price has been the Z for Accessorize collection, a collaboration with Zara Simon. We think any mum would love the gold-plated pendant necklaces or precious stone rings, both just £15. Find them in store at Westfield White City, other outlets around London or online.
9. DAYS OUT
If you haven’t managed to pre-book tickets for Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty (opening this weekend), why not take your mum to the Imperial War Museum to visit Fashion on the Ration, an exhibition about street style from the 1940s. Top it off with a trip to The Cheeky Parlour for a bit of pampering and to get your nails done – you can find them on Redchurch Street or in Holborn.
10. EVENINGS OUT
Celebrate the ultimate Hollywood woman’s woman and head to the BFI Southbank for Katherine Hepburn season. Tickets are still on sale for The Lion in Winter, On Golden Pond and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner. A drink at the bar before or after is a must.
