Black Friday is one of the UK’s biggest sale days and a great opportunity to buy discounted Christmas gifts or cheap outfits.
Black Friday is on the 23rd November and Cyber Monday on the 26th. However most British retailers don’t restrict their Black Friday sales to a 24-hour period, instead encouraging shoppers to take advantage of discounts across the weekend.

Argos is giving away 100 shower curtains with built in gadget pockets so that customers can shop while they shower. Regardless of where you’re shopping from, the store’s click and collect service means you can grab the best deals as soon as they’re available online and have 7 days to pick up your order at a store convenient for you.
The sale is expected to launch on the evening of Thursday 22nd. Expect great deals on technology including tablets, game consoles, and televisions.
Debenhams is promising deals and discounts on all your favourite brands across beauty, womenswear, menswear and electricals. The online sales start from Tuesday 20th November.
Selfridges is running a special promotion over the weekend, they’re not calling it Black Friday – instead they’re branding it as “Christmas Comes Early”. Whatever they choose to call it, there are sure to be some great bargains on offer.
The sale event last year included deals such as 20% off fashion and accessories, 10% off beauty, and even giving out free tubs of black coconut ice cream to customers at the Oxford Circus store.
Boots Black Friday event will be held in stores and online from 23 November and will last the whole weekend. Expect big discounts on makeup, electrical beauty, perfume, skincare, and gifts.
5. John Lewis
The department store’s “never knowingly undersold” promise stands over the Black Friday period and they’ll be continually adjusting their prices in line with competitor offers over the event.
John Lewis are also promising their own offers in home, fashion, electricals and technology, including appliances, computers and TVs.
Last year H&M offered up to 50% off everything with free delivery, as well as discounts on specific lines, so you can expect similar bargains this year. To get an extra 10% discount on your purchases, sign up online to join the H&M club.
Topshop has confirmed they’ll be running a Black Friday promotion event online and in stores this year. Sign up to the mailing list to be notified of deals and when the sale starts. Expect discounts of up to 50% off – last year the deals included a mohair peacoat reduced from £165 to £85, high leg boots reduced from £85 to £50, and a velvet dress reduced from £39 to £19.
Urban Outfitters is promising great deals in stores and online across men’s and women’s clothing, accessories, homewares, tech, and music. Last year they offered a buy-one-get-one-half-price across every item in the store.
9. Space N.K
Space N.K. has put a Black Friday countdown timer on its site, promising offers on beauty, makeup, and skincare.
Last year Space N.K. gave out complimentary full-sized gifts to customers over the Black Friday weekend, so it’s definitely worth popping into one of the London stores to see what’s on offer.
Last year Missguided offered 50% off their entire range of stock, so make sure to keep an eye on their Black Friday discounts page or stop by their Westfield Stratford City store.
11. River Island
River Island has a Black Friday countdown timer on its website and is promising great deals in women’s and menswear.
Last year the store offered 20% off everything for those spending £75, along with a range of other discounts across several departments.
12. House of Fraser
House of Fraser hasn’t confirmed they’ll be running a Black Friday sale, but last year they offered a week of offers and discounts across designer bags and accessories, home appliances, and Christmas decorations.
Next held their first Black Friday sale event last year and are likely to repeat it as it was a huge success. The 2017 event saw reductions of up to 70% across their fashion, home, and kids ranges. Next sales are always popular and are notorious for having queues outside from the early hours of the morning, so expect the best bargains to go quickly.
14. Cath Kidston
Cath Kidston ran a successful up to 40% off Black Friday sale in 2017 and has confirmed they will be doing the same again. Bargains last year included a magnolia day bag reduced to £30 from £50, a peony spot nappy bag reduced from £95 to £56, and button spot Bluetooth headphones discounted to £22 from £38.
Joules has already started their Black Friday event online with up to 50% off across womenswear, menswear, kids, and homewares. Some of the great offers include a raspberry wool duffel coat reduced from £179 to £89.95, the Agatha blazer reduced from £99.95 to £49.95, and the Paddington tweed holdall discounted to £53.95 from £89.95.
Gap hasn’t announced what deals it’s offering for Black Friday 2018 yet, but as it’s an American company, it’s sure to be good. Last year customers benefitted from 50% across the entire range both in store and online.
Mango has put up a Black Friday page and confirmed that deals will be both online and in-store, but hasn’t yet confirmed the finer details. Last year the retailer offered 30% off everything and the sale ran from Wednesday to Black Friday itself.
The original Swedish rain coat brand, Stutterheim will be offering 50% – 75% off selected lines for Black Friday. Styles available in the offer include Stockholm Long, Lightweight Ekeby and Mosebacke.
