Last week, saw the official opening of the world’s first Smart Street – a pedestrianised retail and leisure space containing pop-up shops using the latest retail technology including mobile payment and “selfie” mirrors.

The location for the Smart Street is Bird Street, off Oxford Street near Bond Street station and just down the road from Selfridges.

This one of a kind shopping experience will give consumers the opportunity to browse some of the biggest fashion and lifestyle brands, enjoy food and drink, and experiment with cutting edge technology including:

Pavegen electricity-generating paving, which will generate bird sounds and lights from the movement of pedestrians.

Airlabs CleanAir Bench, which provides space for shoppers to relax and also monitors and displays air quality in real time.

Airlite paint used on the pop-up buildings that purifies the air of NOx gases and bacteria.
The Dandy Lab showcasing the future of retail technology including mobile payment apps and incentivized selfie mirrors.

Bird Street is a collaboration between Appear Here and The New West End Company to support businesses in the area. It is part of the London Future Streets incubator scheme, arranged by Transport for London.
