Vivienne Westwood expands to China

Fashion’s Queen of quirk Vivienne Westwood is having her anarchic brand stretched across the world, most recently landing in China. The store is the British designer’s third Chinese store, taking on the role of flagship in large mall Grand Gateway 66.

When Vivienne landed for the launch of the new store, she told WWD: “I actually don’t know that much [about China]. I have never really taken that much interest.”

She unveiled an introductory exhibition in the shopping centre’s atrium on Tuesday, showcasing 40 years of her footwear designs, before showing her spring collection at Shanghai Fashion Week on Thursday. She finished her visit on Friday, giving a talk at a local university about China’s role in fighting climate change, for which Westwood is a consistent campaigner.

There are plans for 30 additional stores to open across China within the next three years, with rumoured plans of creating a China specific collection, making Vivienne Westwood a truly global brand.
