The V&A announced this week that it is set to unveil a major retrospective of the work of Cristóbal Balenciaga next Spring.
Called ‘Balenciaga: Shaping Fashion’, the exhibition will feature around 100 garments and 20 hats and will mark 100 years since the iconic designer established his house in San Sebastian, and 80 years since his Paris salon opened its doors. It is the first retrospective of the Basque designer to take place in the UK.
Alongside the exhibits, sketches, photographs and fabric swatches will help tell the story of how Balenciaga transformed fashion, and came to be known as one of the most innovative and influential designers of his generation.
The exhibition will run from May 2017 until February 2018.
