Tom Ford, one of the most luxurious and globally successful brands to show on the London Fashion Week schedule, is to be honoured at this year’s CFDA Awards with The Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award.

The accolade is named after the four-time CFDA award-winner Geoffrey Beene, a celebrated American designer whose career spanned over 40 years and who guided Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz in his early career.

Born in Texas, Tom Ford catapulted himself to fashion superstardom when he took over the creative reins at Gucci in 1994, winning the CFDA International Award a year later. Following his departure from Gucci, Ford set up his eponymous label in 2005, beginning with fragrance and cosmetics and adding luxury menswear, accessories and shoes in 2006. In 2009 he turned his hand to directing – A Single Man, starring Colin Firth and Julianne Moore, was well received by the film press and earned its leading man an Oscar nomination for best actor.

It was in 2010 that he finally returned to designing for women. He began showing at London Fashion Week in February 2013.
