The Met Ball honours Alexander McQueen

After the focus being on London over the Royal Wedding weekend, all eyes have now switched to New York, where the The Costume Institute gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art took place last night. Celebs came out in their best outfits, courtesy of various high-end designers, but the focus of the night was of course, Alexander McQueen.

McQueen, whose work is being displayed at the museum as part of an exhibition named ‘Alexander McQueen: Savage beauty’, committed suicide last February and was the focal point of the event. As guests arrived they were greeted by bagpipe players and flashes of tartan – a fitting tribute to the designer who had a deep passion for all things Scottish and used a lot of bold tartans in his designs.

With the London born designer’s name on everyone’s lips, many took the opportunity to bring out the vintage McQueen, and others looked to other designers of the moment. Here’s a look at the best dressed…
