British designer Stella McCartney has announced that she will fund a scholarship scheme for students wishing to study the MA Fashion at Central St Martins College in London, where the designer herself learnt her craft.
Collecting her honorary degree from the university this week, McCartney said: “To get to a college like this is so hard for so many talented young people. For that reason, I am setting up this scholarship and I encourage other fortunate fashion houses to do the same.”
Stella will fund scholarships for EU and international students with exceptional talent, but who struggle to finance their studies, as well as a one year paid internship at the Stella McCartney fashion house. The lucky recipients of the scholarship will be announced this October, and as part of the agreement will have to adhere to Stella’s no fur, no leather or animal bi-products policy.
