Business Mogul Sir Philip Green is expected to accept an award for ‘Retailer of the Year’ in New York today.
The famous Arcadia Group, for which Green is accepting the award, includes fashion retailers Topshop, Topman, Dorothy Perkins, Burton, Evans, Miss Selfridge, BHS, Wallis and Outfit. The 58-year-old and his wife own the group, worth $4.28 billion, which is one of Britain’s biggest private employers, with 2,800 stores and more than 45,000 staff. Stores also exist outside the UK, with 479 franchises and plans to expand to Russia, Indonesia, Thailand and Japan.
The criteria for the NRF’s awards are not specific, but states that ‘the award is presented to a global retail company and retail leader which demonstrates excellence both in their native country and internationally.’ Green – its in the bag!
Last year’s winner was Japan’s Tadashi Yahai, founder and CEO of Fast Retailing Ltd, who owns speciality retailer Uniqlo.
