The Queen is the Radio Times Royal cover star for their 2nd-8th June 2012 issue, showing her resplendent smile and majestic crown in an art work recreation of herself.
The piece comes courtesy of Peter Blake, who The Queen turned down on the offer of an official portrait 40 years ago, instead opting for artist Pietro Annigoni. But Blake has now gone down the unofficial route and created a piece of art from a photograph taken by John Swannell.
His portrait will now be seen by readers nationwide as the country welcomes the celebration of Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee next weekend. And lucky for Liz, Blake has been kind. “It has some of her creases, but it’s not cruel”, he told The Telegraph.
The Jubilee issue is out June 2nd.
