Ten of Princess Diana’s most iconic dresses were auctioned in London last week, including the famous gown she wore while famously seen dancing with John Travolta. The stunning collection was estimated to be worth a total of over £600,000, according to a spokesperson for Kerry Taylor Auctions, but on the day of the auction actually sold for a total of almost £900,000.
The auction house explained that “some of the gowns were worn for official state visits to Austria, Australia, Brazil, India, South Korea and the United States of America.”
The collection which has been captured by paparazzi as well as photographers, included a midnight-blue velvet dress by Victor Edelstein which was worn to a 1985 dinner at the White House which was bought for a staggering £240,000 as a surprise gift for one very lucky wife. Another frock, a dark green dinner gown, has a small handprint on the skirt, which could belong to one of her young sons at the time.
The dresses were all created by some of Diana’s favourite designers, including Zandra Rhodes, Catherine Walker, Bruce Oldfield and Victor Edelstein.
