Toy company Mattel has given its iconic Barbie doll a dramatic makeover for 2016, launching its first ever diverse range of shapes, sizes, hair and skin types.

The new line includes petite, tall and curvy dolls, coming in seven different skin tones and 24 hair styles, offering a total of 33 dolls to choose from.

Speaking about the new launch, Evelyn Mazzocco, global general manager of the Barbie range, said: “These new dolls represent a line that is more reflective of the world girls see around them — the variety in body type, skin tones and style allows girls to find a doll that speaks to them.”

The brand hopes the move will also increase the demand for Barbie, after announcing a 14 percent global drop in its popularity in October 2015.
