Jam-packed glossy magazines, memories of starting a new school year, a slow change in the seasons – there are many reasons why the approaching month of September has us all thinking of shiny new shoes, a brand-new winter coat and smart, fresh workwear.

Under the savvy stewardship of Style Director Belinda Earl, M&S set to be a one-stop shop for chic new-season choices that will slot effortlessly into our busy, modern lives and wardrobes.

The brand had the fashion industry abuzz following its press preview a few months ago, which demonstrated M&S’s renewed focus on quality, as well as the hard work the team has put into interpreting trends in a manner that will fit and flatter. There are so many great fashion finds to discover over the coming months, and today we’re beginning our preview by focusing on shoes, coats and workwear.

M&S’s revamp is just as focused on quality and fit as it is on style, and nowhere is this more evident than with the autumn/winter shoe collection. Insolia™ technology has been rolled out for heels and flats, designed to take the pressure off the foot for added comfort and flexibility. And the improvements don’t stop there – expect to find stretch zips on the boots and added cushioning, too. Head of Design Karen Peacock picks out the leopard wedge boot as her highlight of the season. She says, “with punk and grunge looks dominating the AW13 catwalks, animal prints have made a real comeback.”

The perfect coat can anchor your winter wardrobe and is bound to see plenty of use. Expect to see this duster coat from the Femme Fatale collection all over your favourite magazines and style supplements this autumn – it was an instant hit with editors and bloggers alike. Pink is the key colour of the season, and the oversized, cocooning fit is also bang on trend. Also noteworthy are the animal biker coat, one of Head of Design Neil Hendy’s favourite pieces, and the androgynous Autograph pinstripe style, picked out by Karen Peacock, Head of Design on M&S brands and accessories.

Just like the shoe collections, smart quality control choices have been made by the designers to ensure your M&S coat goes the distance. Linings have been improved, thermal technology has been added for warmth, and Ascolite® technology prevents buttons from loosening and falling off.

Workwear is all about finding the perfect combination of stylish and smart. As Neil Hendy describes, “every woman should own a perfect black trouser,” and this is certainly true when it comes to your office attire. Cut from premium Italian wool, you can expect to find a flattering variety of superslim, slim crop, modern bootcut, wide leg and straight-leg styles at M&S.

Both the Autograph and Limited Edition collections feature pinstriped tailoring that takes its cue from the men’s-inspired styles seen on the catwalks from New York to Paris. What’s more, the Modern Elegance story is all about clean, elegant tailored silhouettes with a feminine sensibility and cut from luxurious fabrics.

Formal trousers and tops have been designed with durable fused seams, neat French seams and an exclusive STAYNEW® finish on three quarters of all viscose styles to prevent pilling after washing. Music to our ears!
