Marc Jacobs says Victoria Beckham campaign was ‘unexpected’

Marc Jacobs has said working with Victoria Beckham on his 2008 campaign was so successful because it was so unexpected.

Speaking to Germany’s Interview magazine, the 49-year-old Louis Vuitton designer said: “Victoria would never have been the type of person that I think anyone would have thought of as our customer. Victoria liked the idea very much and was totally into it so I said, ‘Let’s treat her like she’s a kind of product.’ Because she is, she’s created herself… And the first image you saw was just her legs coming out of a shopping bag.”

British fashion designer Victoria Beckham was pictured in the spring/summer 2008 campaign, the same year she launched her own label, popping out of an oversized Marc Jacobs paper bag.

Jacobs goes on to speak about his heroin addiction, claiming he was never a “fat heroin addict”, but a skinny one, saying: “I was fat when I stopped doing drugs, not fat while I was doing drugs. I don’t know anyone who’s fat when they’re doing drugs.”
