Ethical fashion designer Katherine Hamnett rolled up to Buckingham Palace yesterday to collect her CBE for services to the fashion industry in a bold Philip Treacy hat. The 63-year-old is most famous for her political slogan tops of the 80s such as “Choose Life”, “Education Not Missles” and “Leaders Suck”.
The Central Saint Martin’s graduate wore an extravagant hat made of real cockerel feathers by celebrity milliner Philip Treacy, which luckily matched her CBE (Commander of the British Empire), paired with a black organic cotton dress and wrap.
Her hat is not as outrageous as some of Treacy’s creations, particularly his pretzel-like hat Princess Beatrice wore to the recent Royal Wedding, which earned its own Facebook page and many spoof pictures. It later sold for £81,000 on eBay to raise money for UNICEF and Children in Crisis.
