Kate Moss is to release a new collection of jewellery designed in collaboration with Brazilian designer Ara Vartanian.
The collection will include 18-Karat gold rings set with diamonds and Brazilian gemstones, pendants, earrings, and buckles.
Kate first met Vartanian in 2012 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, when she visited his store to commission a tanzanite ring. She describes how he gifted her with a pendant studded with seven diamonds on the front and five amethysts on the back, calling it an amulet to provide protection and bring good luck to the wearer.
She said: “When we spoke about working together I said I wanted to make more jewellery like that – pieces that have meaning and that you can wear every day.”
Vartanian was also inspired by Kate’s clothing and accessories collection, particularly a Russian cigarette case from the ’20s and a pair of ruby-studded gold cuffs.
Many of the pieces in the collection feature red garnet, which is Kate’s birthstone, and amethyst is another of her favourites.
Vartanian says the jewellery is not about fashion, but has a more spiritual significance, saying: “The stones and attitude give them a powerful energy, they are forever.” Spiritual and medieval symbols including an eye, moon and stars, shields, and mounted swords feature on many of the pieces
Pieces from the Kate Moss x Ara Vartanian collection will start from £700 and are available from May at harveynichols.com and the Ara Vartanian boutique at 44 Brunton Place, London W1J.
