Margaret Thatcher is not usually referred to as a style icon, but she’s now been awarded the honour by Georgia May Jagger in Harper’s Bazaar US. In a photoshoot for next month’s issue, 19-year-old Georgia takes on the role of the iron lady, slipping into a series of classic twin sets and smart suits for the role as the former British Prime Minister.
However Georgia’s ensembles are a little more high-end than Thatcher’s original practical outfits of the eighties, with the model posing in Prada, Valentino, Burberry and Derek Lam in a series of scenes taken from Lady Thatcher’s time at Downing Street, shot by Terry Richardson. Her dramatic voluminous hair and bold power suits not only embody the style of the first female PM, but also the out-there styling of the 1980s.
The fashion editorial coincides with the imminent release of a Margaret Thatcher film biopic in which Meryl Streep plays the main lady herself. Although Georgia’s pictures are a lot more fun, we’re guessing Streep’s portrayal will be a little more accurate.
