The McQ Alexander McQueen womenswear SS13 collection sees “the return of a heritage silhouette, wasp waists and a constructed hip“. The designs are intended to accentuate the feminine silhouette and form.
“The collection is a study of femininity. We looked at erotica. Vargas girls, cages, corsets and crinolines and the idealisation of the female form. Nothing is set in a particular period. It’s about sensuality and skin but not nudity. We also wanted to express lightness, for the clothes almost to hover over the women who wear them.” – Sarah Burton.
The collection features heavy layers of jewels over tailored jackets, with hints of sheer fabrics to tastefully expose the body. Mid-calf pencil skirts and cropped trousers are a theme of the SS13 collection. Light woven fabrics, silk organza and lace add to the feminine aesthetic, with a contrasting use of heavy patent leather.
