Gossip Girl actress Blake Lively has been announced as the ambassador for Chanel’s new Mademoiselle handbag range. She will appear in a set of ad campaigns for the bags, photographed by Chanel’s creative director Karl Lagerfeld, which are set to appear in magazines from April this year.
In a rare compliment, 77-year-old Lagerfeld said: “She’s a kind of American dream girl,” and (sort of) showed some admiration for her on-screen skills by saying: “I think she will become a great actress.” The shoot, held at Chanel’s historic Rue Cambon headquarters, went smoothly according to Karl. “It was an easy job because everyone fell in love with her,” he said.
Gaining the new title seems to have been a whirlwind ride for 23-year-old Lively, who was introduced to Lagerfeld by US Vogue editor Anna Wintour last July, during couture week in Paris. They then dined together the night before Chanel’s spectacular show at the Grand Palais and were given a sneak preview by Unkle Karl himself. Jealous much?
After walking up and down the famous mirrored staircase, Blake said: “I took a photo of him so that I would never forget that moment,” she said. “Never did I think six months later he would be photographing me.”
Almost too perfectly suited to the role, Californian-born lively went on to express her love for the brand. “It is timeless, chic, graceful, intelligent, iconic and ever relevant,” she said.
We can’t wait to see the pictures!
