The British Fashion Council announced a new partnership with eBay this morning – BFC Contemporary.

The aim of the initiative is to mentor and help accelerate the growth of fashion designers and brands. The first to receive this support are Zoe Jordan, Alexis Barrell, Georgia Hardinge, Prism, and Paper London.

“Each of the inaugural BFC Contemporary designers possess incredible creativity and strong brand concepts,” said CEO of the British Fashion Council Caroline Rush. “With invaluable support from eBay, these designers mark a new wave in British contemporary design, the rise of which we aim to fuel with this new initiative.”

The selected designers are creating a capsule collection to go on sale on eBay during London Fashion Week this September, and the BFC and ecommerce site will mentor them through the process, from concept and production to budgets and scalability.

Melanie Smallwood, head of curation and merchandising at eBay, said of the project: “The first ever BFC Contemporary Shop on will provide a fantastic platform to showcase British Contemporary designers to our 18 million shoppers.”
