There is no doubt that Burberry Prorsum SS13 is one of London Fashion Week’s hottest tickets, and not just for the array of trademark outerwear, barely-there bodysuits and thigh-skimming pencil skirts we saw today.
There is so much more to a Burberry show; the magnificent venue, the of-the-moment models (Cara Delevigne and Jordan Dunn) and the big names on the front row (Anna Wintour, Victoria Pendleton and Dita Von Teese).
There was no pretence that we forgo summer in the UK most years – capes and trench coats were the focal point of the collection. They came cropped and also hitting below the knee, some were voluminous while others fitted snugly. Essentially, Burberry Prorsum will cater for every taste and fashion personality for SS13.
As for colour, unlike many designers this season, Christopher Bailey refreshingly broke away from monochrome tones and pushed the boundaries. Every colour from gold to saturated azure and fuchsia descended down the catwalk.
Last season’s finale brought tears to the eyes of many watching, but there was no snow or rain this time around. References to weather did continue though as a parade of rainbow-foil trench coats brought the show to a close.
