Born in the cradle of fashion, Marissa Montgomery has inherited her parent’s penchant for all things sartorial. Her father, legendary photographer David Montgomery opened her eyes to the industry at a very early age in addition to Marissa’s very own flourishing lingerie business, Pussy Glamore which she launched whilst still studying for her degree in English and Drama at the University of London. Marissa lives in London growing her fashion t-shirt brand, Rotten Roach.
The Rotten Roach collection features an exclusive collaboration with London born, NYC-based artist and illustrator Hugo Guinness. The collaboration has resulted in a contemporary line of ready-to-wear t-shirts with a set of slogans that have already been a hot favourite with A-listers such as Kate Moss, Salma Hayek, Sadie Frost, Arizona Muse, Caroline Stanbury, Tamara Ecclestone, Lindsay Lohan and more.
In 2016 Marissa was named one of Forbes 30 to watch under 30.
Chelsea. I love how beautiful it is and that you can walk and be in the park in a matter of minutes. I am also obsessed with Chelsea in the 60’s and what a swinging melting pot of creativity it was. There are still one or two places in the neighbourhood where you can find authentic artists that have been here forever.
Favourite place for brunch:
My favourite place for brunch is the restaurant at KX gym the food is amazing they do the best cobb salad in the world.
Best coffee in London:
I don’t actually drink coffee but on the odd occasion I do it’s from the roof top of the Berkeley Hotel. It is a haven away from everything with a rooftop pool and the best milky coffee or fresh mint tea and 360 views of London.
Favourite gallery or museum:
My house – we have so many books and prints and artists stopping by it’s basically like a museum!! Otherwise I love the Royal Academy of Arts, it’s such a beautiful building and always puts on the best shows from Monet to Hockey.
Tell us a secret:
I still sleep with a teddy bear.
Favourite place to shop:
My favourite place to shop is Fortnum and Mason. I can spend hours in there it’s the best place to buy a gift, the packaging is beyond beautiful. I’m also a sucker for a scone.
Favourite place to find inspiration:
The list is endless. The theatre, galleries, parks . For me it’s sitting outside of Maison Bertaux in Soho and watching all the people go buy while eating one of their marzipan green cakes with my sketch book in tow and some Fleetwood Mac on my ipod.
Best London destination for a date:
The Royal Court for a show then a slow stroll to dinner at La Famiglia for the best spaghetti alle vongole in the world .
The rose garden in Regents Park or a walk around the Serpentine. Both are pretty magical.
Favourite food market:
I just went to this amazing market after going to the Southark Theatre. It’s all Italian and so delicious the best pizza, pasta , aperol spritz and ambience. It’s called Mercarto Metropolitano, lots and lots of stands offering amazing things and a great vibe.
Your sanctuary in the city:
I have two sanctuaries in the city. One is the swimming on the roof of the Berkeley when it’s nice weather they open the roof and it’s total paradise and I often go for a sunset swim. It totally calms me. The other is taking a pilates class at KX Gym in their super chic reformer studio.
What inspires you?:
Love, heartbreak and the kindness of others.
This season I’m loving:
Reading the Neopolitan series by Elena Ferrante and lots of Psychology ‘The Examined Life’ by Stephen Grosz and ‘Loves Executioner’ by Irvin D Yalom. I’m about to start a book club! Watercolour sketches too and I’m trying to do at least two portraits a week. James Read’s Rose water tan mist to keep me golden into Autumn. Oldchella – all my favourite bands including the Rolling Stones, Neil Young etc performing in the desert in Indio Valley. I’m obsessed with Roland Mouret Jumpsuits as they’re all I want to wear. Strong brows from Blink Brow Bar at The Bluebird. Laura Mercier’s contour palette is my current obsession if it’s good enough for Kim K!! The list is endless.
