My London: Olivia von Halle – Fashion Designer

Interviews | | Leave a Comment

A graduate of Fashion and Textile Management at Leeds University, Olivia von Halle began her stylish career as a trend forecaster at The Future Laboratory in London, a career she pursued in Shanghai before returning to the capital in 2011.

Inspired by the glamorous loungewear worn by Coco Chanel and her contemporaries in the ‘20s, she launched her eponymous luxury nightwear brand in September of the same year at London Fashion Week. Her silk-satin sleepwear can be found online at NET-A-PORTER, and around London at department stores Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Liberty, Harrods and Fortnum & Mason as well as Viola, Coco de Mer and Caroline Randell.

Favourite neighbourhood:

Islington where I live. I love the beautiful Georgian architecture and that you can be at a grimy party in Dalston and be back home in 10 minutes!

Favourite place for brunch:

I live for The Wolseley. An oldie but a goodie.

Best coffee in London:

I don’t really drink coffee but when I do it has to be a flat white from Shoreditch Grind on Old Street roundabout.

Favourite gallery or museum:

I love getting lost in The Natural History Museum.

Favourite building:

Battersea Power Station has always had a special place in my heart. I have had dreams of buying it and converting it into London’s most amazing home since I was a little girl but I think that might be beyond even my ambitions!

Favourite place to shop:

Mount Street, Mayfair – Jessica McCormack, Alessandra Rich, Celine, Marc Jacobs = heaven.

Favourite place to find inspiration:

I love the exhibitions at the V&A, always so inspiring and the permanent collections are amazing too.

Best London destination for a date:

Having been married for 6 years, when my husband and I go on dates it is to eat, eat and eat. Our favourite restaurant in London is Roka, a delicious Japanese place on Charlotte Street.

Favourite park:

I grew up on a farm in the countryside so I love nothing more than donning my wellies mid-winter and stomping through the mud on Hampstead Heath.

Favourite food market:

Borough Market.

Your sanctuary in the city:

I love my little garden in Islington; it is an amazing suntrap and bursting with English country garden plants and bees.

What inspires you?

I always get my best ideas when I’m out walking my boxer dog Bathtub on Hampstead Heath.

This season I’m loving:

Bella Mira, Anoushka Snow white and Alba Ulyana.
