Best London Markets for Furniture

You’ll see a huge range of people browsing London’s best markets for furniture. From 20-somethings trying to kit out their first flat on a starter salary without stepping foot in Ikea, to millionaire property-owners and high-end stylists seeking out valuable antiques. Whichever group you fit into (or maybe you’re somewhere in-between) you’re sure to find the perfect items for your home at one of these London flea markets and antique furniture markets.

1. Alfies Antique Market

Alfies Antique Market on Church Street in Marylebone is London’s largest indoor antiques market and houses almost one hundred dealers selling vintage and antique furniture alongside jewellery, homewares, and collectables.

If you’re looking for an original Art Deco lamp, a retro ‘60s armchair, or a collection of mid-century furniture to furnish a vintage-inspired home, you’ll find it all here. The dealers know their stuff and the items are top-quality – don’t expect the same prices you’d expect at a car boot sale or flea market, but it’s an excellent place to shop for unique pieces that are sure to take pride of place in your home.

Open 10am – 6pm Tuesday to Saturday

13-25 Church Street, London NW8 8DT

2. The Vintage Furniture Flea

This specialist vintage furniture and homewares market runs once a month at venues across London including York Hall in Bethnal Green, Cecil Sharp House in Camden, and St Paul’s in Hammersmith, and Balham SDA church.

This flea market attracts dealers from all over the country specialising in retro and mid-century furniture, and is one of the best opportunities to shop for original vintage furniture and homewares from the ‘50s to ‘70s. It’s also a great place to shop for kitsch and retro kitchen accessories and home décor. Prices are reasonable and the selection can’t be beat.

Various locations across London. Check the website for dates, times, and details of upcoming events.

3. Portobello Road Market

Saturday is the busiest and best day to visit Portobello Market, with its various and constantly changing stalls selling antique furniture, household goods, and bric-a-brac. There are also several permanent furniture shops on Portobello Road and the neighbouring Golborne Road that are worth a look.

Mid-century and retro vintage goods are concentrated along Golborne Road to the north, and you’ll find more serious antiques on Portobello Road itself. Check out Sit On It for original ‘60s furniture and telephones, Scantique for Scandinavian and mid-century pieces, and The Last Place on Earth for affordable vintage furniture, recently featured on the Channel 4 series “Kirstie’s Vintage Home”.

Open 9am-6pm Monday to Wednesday, 9am – 1pm Thursday, and 9am – 7pm Friday to Saturday.

Portobello Rd, London W10 5TA

4. Chatsworth Road Market

Chatsworth Road hosts a vibrant traditional flea market every Sunday morning. Alongside retro furniture and vintage clothes you’ll find vendors selling freshly baked bread and artisan cheeses.

But the real stars of the show are the antique furniture shops, whose wares spill out onto the pavements and blend into the market. Sanderson Sweeping Antiques offers an impressive selection of 20th century furniture and home décor, while Furnish over the road specialises in antique cabinets.

Every Sunday 10am – 4pm

Chatsworth Road, London E5 0LH

5. Northcote Road Antiques Market

This large indoor market in Battersea is home to over 30 dealers selling antique homewares, vintage furniture, and retro collectables. This is a great spot for treasure hunting from 19th century antiques to kitsch 60s décor and makes a fun spot for pottering and exploring at the weekend.

Prices tend to be on the high side, but the goods are high quality and the dealers are knowledgeable and friendly. If you’re on a smaller budget there are plenty of unusual decorative pieces you can pick up for less than £20 such as framed vintage photographs, a carriage clock, or a brass teacup set.

Open 10am – 5.30pm Monday to Saturday and 12 – 5pm Sunday.

155a Northcote Rd, London SW11 6QB
