Whether you want a simple cut or a complete style overhaul, choosing a hairdressers can be a bit of a chore. To help you out here is London’s Top 10 Hair Salons. We have thrown together a mix of long-standing luxury, newly established and moderately priced places for you to browse through.

 

1. Daniel Hersheson
45 Conduit Street, London W1S 2YN

Hair has been expertly cut and coloured in Hersheson’s salons since the early ’90s. A favourite with models, celebrities and editors, it has long topped the charts as one of the best hairdressers in London. There is also a branch in Harvey Nichols and excellent blow dry bars in Topshop’s flagship on Oxford Street, Westfield in Shepherds Bush, One New Change at St. Pauls and Selfridges.

 

2. Josh Wood
6 Lansdowne Mews, London, W11

As a beauty industry favourite, Josh Wood was bound to make an appearance in our top 10. He has revolutionised the hairdressing experience with unbeatable hair colouring expertise and  strong emphasis on in-salon customer service. Get an excellent colour whilst enjoying delicious refreshments. An appointment at the Notting  Hill atelier will set you back a few pennies, luckily a Liberty London atelier is about to open.

 

3. Michael John
25 Albermarle Street, London, W1S 4HU

You will be in royal company at Michael John in Mayfair – Princess Beatrice has been known to get her locks cut here and when in town, Anna Wintour gets her fringe cut here. With those credentials you know you are sure to be well looked after.

 

4. Daniel Galvin
58-60 George Street, London, W1U 7ET

This is a salon home to some of the best colourists and stylists in the UK. Galvin’s clients have included Madonna and Diana, Princess of Wales. Galvin received an OBE in 2006 for his services to the hair industry, so although a cut will be pricey, you know it’s justified.

 

5. Taylor Taylor
137 Commercial Street, London, E1 6BJ

The opulent décor of chandeliers and complimentary cocktails means a cut here is more than relaxing. Prices are moderate, starting at £52 for women.

 

6. Foster London
No 1 Sclater Street, London, E1 6HT

A ’50s cocktail cabinet forms the reception at this hip east London salon. Brother and sister team Nadia and Drew Foster have made this space a vintage haven. Brazilian blow dries, glossing and volumising treatments are top of our list to try out. Uber cool but equally friendly.

 

7.  Hari’s Kings Road
233 Kings Road, London, SW3 5EJ

Part salon, part gallery, this relatively new salon on the Kings Road is friendly, bright and cheery. As well as a great service you can have your nails done at the Sophy Robson nail concession or pick up a yummy drink at the juice bar.

 

8. Bleach
420 Kingsland Road, London, E8 4AA

The guys at bleach started the dip-dye trend that has swept the fashion and beauty industry. Founded by Alex Brownswell and Sam Teasdale, these guys are the queens of dramatic colour.  Whether it’s dip dye or rainbow tips, if you’re looking for a dramatic change this is the place to go.

 

9. Neil Cornelius
109 New Bond Street, London, W1S 1EG

Neil Cornelius has worked with Michael John and Jo Handsford and has since started this new venture. The salon has a calm atmosphere which makes for an extremely relaxing experience. Be safe in the knowledge that Keira Knightly and Kate Moss have all trusted their tresses with Neil.

 

10. Jo Hansford
48 South Audley Street, Mayfair, London, W1K 2QB

Head here for expert colour that has stood the test of time. It has long been a favourite of fashion editors and models alike. There are also beauticians and manicurists on hand to complete your look.
