London Fashion Week: McQ Autumn/Winter 2012

It’s the one we’ve all been waiting for – the glorious return of McQ by Alexander McQueen to British waters – and the comeback did not disappoint.

In true theatrical McQueen style, the runway was transformed into an eerie forest, lined with freshly   and bare branch trees – clearly a sign of what was about to come. We were not wrong, as the models stepped out onto the catwalk revealing nature inspired designs in autumnal shades of moss green and burnt orange, with all the tough McQueen trimmings, from military style belts to elbow-length leather gloves. Sarah Burton outdid herself with the lower-priced collection, maintaining all those elements of Alexander we remember, but adding modern elements such as bold coloured petals and accents of luxurious fur.

But of course, it wouldn’t be a McQueen show without a bit of drama, which arrived at the finale when model Kristen McMenamy stopped in her tracks, looked up, and as if by magic, the autumn leaves began to fall. Exquisite.
