William Morris Gallery
Whilst you’re in the grounds, get acquainted with one of Walthamstow’s most famous historical residences. William Morris, one of the most influential designers of the 19th century who still continues to be referenced in fashion and interiors today, lived in this house between 1848 and 1856 and it now stands as the only public gallery devoted to his work. The gallery is open Wednesday to Sunday and on bank holidays and entry is free.

You’ll no doubt be feeling a little peckish by now, so what does Walthamstow have to offer food lovers? Well, quite a lot actually but if you fancy something locally produced, jump in your DriveNow and head to Hornbeam Café on Hoe Street. This charming café serves vegan and vegetarian dishes made from organic, seasonal, locally grown and fairtrade produce. It’s very affordable and the menu changes daily so you’re bound to make a return visit.

A five minute drive away you’ll find the longest outdoor market in Europe! The 1km long stretch of stalls sell fruit and veg, clothing, fabric and flowers with plenty of Asian and Caribbean produce.

Local residents are known for their arts and crafts, so don’t miss out on a visit to this lovely regular market selling gifts and trinkets made by Walthamstow’s finest. From jewellery, to art prints, cards and glassware, you’re bound to find something special for that special someone. Venues vary.
Time for cake? Those with a sweet tooth should certainly not miss a trip to Aura Rosa, back on Hoe Street. This spectacular patisserie offers a delicious range of treats for special occasions or to enjoy on the premises with their afternoon tea sittings which can be booked in advance. Head pastry chef Gio Guillen-Arcay trained under Marco Pierre White, Marcus Wareing and Michel Roux jr. and has several awards under his belt.

Another champion of doing things locally, Mother’s Ruin make and sell gin. You can visit their premises on Friday evenings and through the weekend for London’s quintessential beverage and special fruit liqueurs.

God’s Own Junkyard
Leave your DriveNow on the industrial estate and take a stroll around the corner to God’s Own Junkyard, a magical neon yard filled with work created by the Braceys, the most famous family in neon. Opened by the late Chris Bracey, he created most of Soho’s sexy signs in the 70s and created work for the sets of big Hollywood films, and now leaves this warmly glowing legacy at their gallery.

A delicious dinner isn’t far away. This relaxed eatery has a friendly vibe and the ingredients are locally sourced including meat from their neighbours East London Sausage Company. They’re famous for their bacon jam, so make sure you grab some to take home.
